I was born and raised in South Dakota but spent my married years living in various areas of the U.S. I am a self-taught artist and began watercolor painting in the late 1980s while living in beautiful Vermont. The time-worn, wood-sided barns, store fronts and reflective windows inspired me to do several studies capturing the characteristics of wood and glass. The end result was a series of paintings I titled Windows of Vermont. I paint from my own photographs. I relocated to Arizona in 1994 and quickly learned the southwest also had much to offer regarding subject matter. Our favorite place to visit is Greer, Arizona because it has the seasons I grew up with. I love the snow, pine trees, wild life, streams, lakes and fresh crisp winter air. My dream...a cabin in the white mountains!!! My educational background was in nursing, a career I ended in the early 80's due to relocation and the desire to paint. I'm married - 37 years in 2007 - and we have a beautiful daughter, son-in-law (Emma's handsome prince) and Emma, the most beautiful and incredible grand daughter who, along with Mom and Dad, brighten and bring joy to every day! Everything purple, including the flowers, were painted for Dr. Sandra Gibson's dental office in Tucson. Contact: Jean Sumption at jean@jsumption.com |
